Bash felt like his feet were on fire. So was his back, his thighs, and the rest of him. On top of hauling things around all day, he’d also been part of the massive deep clean that was done at PGD every two weeks.

And the whole time they worked he could feel Arden’s tension. Every day that went by, the more on edge he was than the day before, but Bash could understand why. The weight of the world was on his shoulders.

What the hell? He’s a bastard on a good day.

But there was more to it than that. As much as Bash wanted to simply ignore the man, he saw the way he cared for everyone at PGD. Maybe he had a little thing for him.

For more than just him.

That thought was unsettling, but he couldn’t shake the truth. The longer he was around them, the more he wanted them. Bash had never allowed himself to want anything and now? Well, he had clearly lost his damn mind.

Bash stopped off at the kitchen and stared into the fridge. He settled for a frozen dinner that he popped into the microwave and his eyes lingered on a tray of brownies that someone had baked. The alluring chocolate scent was way too good to ignore.

He picked up a piece of the plastic wrap and plucked a brownie from the batch. One bite and he was in heaven. Bash’s guilty pleasure was all things sweet and the chocolate hit the spot. A moan slipped past his lips as he devoured the treat and went for a second one.

“What are you doing!”

Bash frowned as he replaced the plastic wrap on the brownies and turned to face Gamble. The witch’s eyes were huge as they went from the brownies to Bash and back again.

“Huh? It’s just a brownie. Did you make them?” he asked.

“Tell me you didn’t,” he said as he raced over and groaned. “How many did you eat?”

Bash growled. “If you’re that stingy, I won’t touch your shit again,” he snapped. “I don’t get-”

Gamble grabbed his arm. “How. Many?”

“Two,” Bash admitted. “Maybe three,” he said more quietly as heat raced up his spine. “What’s the big deal?”

Sighing, the witch faced him and bit his lip. “I didn’t think anyone would mess with them that quickly. I mean I slipped up and baked them while everyone was working and then I just had to use the bathroom and I thought-”

“Spit it out!” Bash growled.

“Fuck,” Gamble shook his head. “You just ate three very, very potent weed brownies.”

Bash stared at the witch. No, he’d heard wrong. Right? He had to have heard wrong. There was no way Gamble just said that he’d drugged him.

“Gamble…”

“It’s not my fault!” The witch yelped as he ducked away from the advancing bear and put the kitchen table between them. “Who just goes around eating food that’s lying around?”

Bash glared. “It wasn’t food just lying around, it was a goddamn brownie!”

Gamble winced. “Don’t tell Arden.”

The bear looked up at him and wiped a hand down his face at the panicked expression Gamble wore.
